Are you a Chicken or a Pig?? By Veronica Grayson-Smith

Some of you may have heard the old fable about the chicken and the pig but if you haven't it goes something like this;
A Pig and a Chicken are walking down the road one day and The Chicken says:

"Hey Pig, I was thinking we should open a restaurant!"

Pig replies: "Hmm, maybe, what would we call it?"

The Chicken thought for a moment and responds: "How about 'ham-n-eggs'?"

"The Pig thinks for a moment and says: "Naw, No thanks."

So the Chicken asks him, "How come?"

And the Pig said, "I'd be committed, but you'd only be involved."

It is one thing to just be involved with something, but it is another thing to be totally committed to it to the point that it becomes the driving force of your life.

Life is filled with choices; especially the Christian life and whether we choose to be totally committed like the pig or to just be involved like the chicken each choice has an effect on our life.

When Jesus asked his first disciples to make a choice he used the words "Follow Me." To follow someone means to put your trust in the one who is guiding you completely and fully.

Jesus uses these same words to call us into the Christian life of discipleship. "Follow me, put your complete, committed trust in Me, that I will lead you on pathways of righteousness for the salvation of your soul."

Like most people, I often find myself more involved than I am committed when it comes to following Christ. I seem to always be busy at something.

Involvement is about doing but commitment is about being.

John 15: 5 NLT says; "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing."

We get so busy being involved that we forget to just be.

In this scripture Jesus said "those who remain in me" this means to be in, to rest in Christ, to abide in Christ, to find our very being in Him and if this is true in our life Christ promises to abide in our soul.

Chicken or a Pig? Just involved or committed? When it comes to being in Christ, I think I want to be a Hog!
