Learning to submit to God means learning to trust and follow him even when you don’t think his way makes sense. When we submit to God, we give our lives to His authority and control. The word, submit is a verb defined to accept or yield to a superior force or to the authority or will of another person.
One way to submit to God is through salvation. We begin submission to God by believing in Jesus as God’s Son who rose from the dead to give us eternal life. Roamans 10:9 states, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Another way to submit to God is through obedience. A first step of obedience to Christ teachings is baptism (Matthew 28:19-20). When we believe in Jesus, baptism is the next step in being obedient. In addition to baptism, there are other ways to obey God. For example, as a child seeks to obey his or her parent to show love and respect, we are called to submit to God through loving and being obedient to His commands.
To submit to God, we must have the faith that his plan is better and ultimately for our good. We must trust that His plan is better than ours. God says no to our plans only because He has something better. God’s will and his plan both come out of the heart of God. God's will is the expression of His love for us, and when we do not joyfully submit to the will of God, we miss out on the blessings He has for us.
So we must ask ourselves the question- Are we fully submitting to God?
